Rahim Yar Khan: The district administration has officially declared a public holiday in Rahim Yar Khan on October 1, 2025, in connection with the Urs celebrations of the great Sufi poet and saint Hazrat Khwaja Ghulam Farid (RA). The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez, who issued a formal notification regarding the holiday.
Details of the Public Holiday
According to the official notification, all government offices, educational institutions, and local departments in Rahim Yar Khan will remain closed on Tuesday, October 1, to mark the Urs of Hazrat Khwaja Ghulam Farid (RA). The public holiday aims to allow citizens to participate in the spiritual and cultural events organized during the Urs, which holds a deep-rooted significance in the region.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of the occasion and stated that the district administration supports the traditional observance of the Urs, which draws thousands of devotees from across the country.

Institutions Exempted from the Holiday
However, not all institutions will observe the holiday. As clearly mentioned in the notification, the public holiday will not apply to:

- Banks
- Other Federal Institutions
These entities will continue to function as per their usual schedules to ensure continuity in essential services and examination processes.

Hazrat Khwaja Ghulam Farid (RA) is one of the most revered Sufi poets and spiritual leaders of the Indian subcontinent. Known for his deep devotion, wisdom, and message of love and peace, his poetry in Saraiki and Punjabi continues to inspire millions even today.
His Urs is observed annually with great respect and devotion, particularly in South Punjab. The event is marked by spiritual gatherings, Sufi music (Qawwali), poetry recitations, and prayers at his Kot Mithan, District Rajanpur shrine. Many devotees also travel to the site to pay their respects.
