Possible Reduction in Electricity Prices CPPA Requests 65 Paisa Cut for October Fuel Adjustment

Possible Reduction in Electricity Prices

Consumers may soon receive positive news as a reduction in electricity prices is likely next month. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has officially requested a decrease of 65 paisa per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment for October. This proposal, if approved, will provide welcome relief to electricity users across the country.

CPPA Requests 65 Paisa Per Unit Cut

The CPPA submitted its request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), stating that fuel costs for electricity generation in October were lower than expected. Due to this decrease in generation cost, CPPA has recommended that the benefit be transferred to consumers through a 65 paisa per unit reduction in electricity bills.

This adjustment falls under the routine monthly fuel charges mechanism, which ensures that changes in production costs are reflected accurately in consumer bills.

NEPRA to Hear the Case on November 27

NEPRA, also referred to as EPRA, has scheduled a hearing on November 27 to review the CPPA’s request. During this session, officials will examine fuel cost data, assess the justification for the reduction, and finally decide whether to approve the proposed cut.

The regulatory authority’s decision will determine whether electricity consumers will see lower bills in the upcoming month.

Expected Relief for Electricity Consumers

According to energy sector officials, the approval of this request would provide direct financial relief to millions of electricity users. With rising inflation and increasing household expenses, even a small reduction of 65 paisa per unit can make a noticeable difference in monthly power bills.

Consumers eagerly await NEPRA’s final decision, hoping for much-needed ease in their electricity expenses.
