Punjab Development Initiatives
Punjab Development Initiatives: Punjab is witnessing a strong push toward development and improved governance as the provincial leadership steps up efforts to enhance infrastructure, agriculture, public safety, and urban cleanliness. In a recent 3-hour video link meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, key performance indicators (KPIs) for Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners were reviewed, and new responsibilities were assigned to further accelerate progress across Punjab.
Reviewing KPIs for Better Governance
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of accountability by reviewing KPIs set for senior officials. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners were given additional responsibilities, including overseeing the electrobus project and a comprehensive flood survey. These efforts aim to ensure that government departments meet their targets efficiently and transparently, delivering better results to the people of Punjab.
Electrobus Project: A Step Toward Sustainable Public Transport
One of the key projects discussed was the electrobus initiative. The Chief Minister directed the establishment of dedicated bus stands at every stop to streamline the operation of the electrobus services across Punjab. This project is expected to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce pollution in urban areas. Complementing this initiative, Maryam Nawaz announced the completion of the Rawalpindi-Murree Road revamp, transforming the once dilapidated route into a lush green corridor. This upgrade not only improves connectivity but also adds to the aesthetic and environmental value of the region.
Strengthening Flood Preparedness with Transparent Data
Given the increasing risk of floods in Punjab, the Deputy Commissioners were tasked with closely monitoring the flood survey campaign. The Chief Minister stressed the need for authentic and transparent data collection to better prepare for and mitigate the impact of floods. This data-driven approach aims to protect vulnerable communities and minimize damage during the monsoon season.
Boosting Agriculture: Wheat Cultivation on Government Land
Agriculture remains the backbone of Punjab’s economy, and the Chief Minister has taken proactive steps to maximize crop production. He directed the Agriculture Department to cultivate wheat on all available government agricultural land and provide the best quality wheat seeds for this purpose. This initiative is set to improve food security and support farmers by making use of government resources effectively.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz focused on road safety around schools by ordering the installation of zebra crossings and speed reduction boards in front of government and private schools across Punjab. These measures are crucial to protect students and ensure safe travel on busy roads.
Clean Water and Clean Cities: Maintenance and Recruitment Drive
Access to clean drinking water is essential for public health. Maryam Nawaz instructed officials to maintain, monitor, and repair over 5,000 water filtration plants across the province. In addition, she emphasized zero tolerance for negligence in city and village cleanliness. To support this, the meeting approved the recruitment of cleaning staff to sustain these efforts and keep Punjab’s urban and rural areas clean and hygienic.
Consumer Protection: Enforcing Bread Prices
To protect consumers, Maryam Nawaz also stressed the strict implementation of the official bread price list throughout Punjab. This step aims to prevent exploitation and ensure that basic food items remain affordable for all citizens.
